Lilac Diversity

- Work in progress -

Lilac Diversity is a photo series in which individuals of different genders, ethnicities, ages, sexualities, shapes and sizes pose nude in lilac body paint. This color represents transformation, intuition and creativity. Lilac symbolizes a blend of female and male energy, mirroring the fusion of traditional girl and boy colors. It embodies the recognition that every individual inherently possesses both male and female energies. I use the colour lilac as a playful phenomenon of the boundary: where it naively comes together, where it is fluid.

The process of body painting is a ritual in which I blindfold the models. As I paint, I guide them to connect with the sensations within their bodies, sparking spontaneous conversations about sensitive topics. This prompts them to open up about their life and experiences, while I simultaneously paint them with a nurturing touch, providing support throughout their emotional journey. This project enables me to offer participants a sensory self-love experience, departing from the conventional result-driven approach of a classical photoshoot.

During group photoshoots, I facilitate exercises in embodiment and touch, creating a space where we delve into taboo topics, fostering open conversations and mutual support in sharing our diverse stories.

I incorporate quotes from the individuals portrayed into the photo descriptions, touching on diverse topics such as body diversity, gender, queerness, (sexual) trauma, age, beauty, intimacy, etc.
